April 21, 2025 Release

25R1.0

We are excited to announce the 25R1.0 Release. The new capabilities delivered include:

Compass Platform

Compass Explorer

Navigate your Patient, Prescriber, and National data products through a new rebranded portal, Compass Explorer, that provides streamlined entry into each product and new features.

All products in the Compass Suite now display in Compass Explorer and will be enabled if licensed. For example, the below would be displayed for a user who has Compass Patient and Compass Prescriber licensed.

Home Page

This simplified access also includes changes to the Compass Patient and Compass Prescriber modules.

Additional Compass Patient module changes include:

  • Patient Referrals has been retired
  • With the launch of Compass Patient Quick Counts, the original Explorer has been retired

Compass Patient

Compass Patient Quick Counts

An exciting new Compass Explorer feature, Quick Counts, provides on-the-fly insight into your Compass Patient cohort size and composition.

Quick Counts
  • Displays total counts for records, patients and HCPs for visibility into the Compass Data Network
  • Counts dynamically adjust as new Qualification Criteria are added to give preview insights into the patient cohort
  • Supports complex logic - OR, AND, AND NOT - in calculations to support a broader set of use cases, including Diagnosed & Treated
  • Supports a granular and flexible time period for more precise results
  • Calculates totals based on Final Dispensed records for Compass Patient, and full Rx lifecycle records for Compass Pathway if licensed
  • Includes demographic visualizations on age and gender to ensure desired patient mix
  • Download Quick Counts and code-level counts for records, patients and HCPs through the Query Preview download

Compass Pathway Filter within Compass Patient

Compass Pathway is now available as a records filter within Compass Patient:

  • If licensed, a Pathway filter will be available to select as a criteria to any query
  • If not licensed, the Pathway filter will be visible but disabled
  • When applied to the query:
    • Data will be delivered in the Pathway schema
    • Quick Counts will display totals inclusive of all records in the Rx lifecycle

Enhanced Schema with New Attributes & Interoperability Standards

We are pleased to announce an expanded V3 schema version for the Compass Patient and Compass Pathway products. The exciting changes are in two categories:

  • New attributes provide deeper insights into transactions and patients
  • Common Data Architecture (CDA) provides a valuable industry standard for operational data in life science companies

A summary of these updates is provided below, and customers have 12 months to implement this new V3 schema.

New attributes in Compass Patient & Compass Pathway

The expanded schema provides a number of new attributes:

  • Ethnicity provides new insights into patient demographics, supporting exciting new use cases for patient journey and HCP targeting
    • Values include Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, and Other, and may be nulled for patient privacy
  • Diagnosis Codes 5 & 6 and their descriptions assist in finding new patients whose diagnoses may have been buried in later code placements
    • Queries and Quick Counts with applied diagnosis codes automatically include new patient results
  • Procedure Code Modifier 2 and new description fields provide additional insight into procedure rationale, program participation, and product use
  • PBM Name and Relationship Type add deeper payer insights on prescription claims
    • PBM values are present for Primary and Secondary Rx payers, and are provided even when other payer values require nullification for patient privacy

Veeva Common Data Architecture (CDA) for industry interoperability

CDA provides a valuable industry standard for operational data in life science companies, adding new attributes to Compass Patient and Pathway and simplifying attribute conventions.

  • New format of Veeva IDs provides topical insight and simpler formatting
    • Prefix values provide the ability for users to easily distinguish between data types, e.g. V01 is for prescribers, V02 is for healthcare organizations
    • New alphanumeric formatting eliminates the auto-conversion to scientific notation format when used in Excel
  • Product and Diagnosis Disease Areas roll up complex code sets to relevant therapeutic areas
    • Product Disease Area may have multiple values to align to the brand’s approved indications, and is supported for over 3,900 brands at launch
    • Diagnosis Disease Areas are available for all diagnosis code positions, and are supported for over 40,000 diagnosis codes at launch
  • HCP Specialties provide all values for more accurate provider insights
    • In addition to a primary specialty, all specialties associated with a provider are provided to capture the full scope of specialties a provider may have
  • Updated attribute names, labels, and data formats that drive consistency and interoperability across all Veeva software and data products

Please refer to the Help Page section, New Schema Transition for instructions on modifying your ingest process, updating your existing queries, and creating new queries to include these exciting new attributes.

Compass Prescriber

Streamlined Compass Prescriber & Zip

Users are now able to extract Zip projected data directly within Compass Prescriber, enabling more streamlined entry into the data pull process and the ability to toggle between Prescriber and Zip level data in the same interface.

Prescriber and Zip

Upon navigating to Compass Prescriber, users can add products and select a time frame, then use the Data Type toggle to switch to Zip level data if desired. This feature is available for new as well as existing queries.

Compass Prescriber & National

The following features are available in the projections published on April 28, 2025.

Enhanced Schema with Payer Data and Interoperability Standards

We are pleased to announce an expanded schema version for the Compass Prescriber and Compass National products. The exciting changes are in three categories:

  • Payer type projections provide a more representative payer mix breakout for products
  • Common Data Architecture (CDA) provides a valuable industry standard for operational data in life science companies
  • Date field updates to enable ingest of projections for different time intervals

An overview of these updates is provided below, and customers have 12 months to implement this new V2 schema.

Payer Type Projections

Payer type projections provide a payer mix breakout (Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid) for a product, enabling more precise HCP targeting, and brand analytics. Payer type projections represent the payer mix across prescriptions and procedures and will be provided as separate metrics (Commercial Tx, Medicare Tx, Medicaid Tx). For a given product and month, the payer type projections will sum up to equal the Tx (total prescriptions & procedures).

  • HCP Specialties provide all values for more accurate provider insights
    • In addition to a primary specialty, all specialties associated with a provider are provided
    • All Specialties fields can have multiple values to capture the full scope of specialties a provider may have
  • Updated attribute names, labels, and data formats for HCP Medical Degrees and HCO Types that drive consistency and interoperability across all Veeva software and data products

Date Field Updates

Date fields have been updated in Compass Prescriber and National V2 schemas to support ingest of projections for different time intervals. The following changes will be applied to the CSV and Parquet schemas:

  • The “month” field has been replaced by the “date_period” field. Field values are numerical (e.g. 1 for January, 2 for February, etc.) rather than three letter month abbreviations
  • The “days” field has been added, which contains the number of days in a given date period (e.g. 31 for January, 28 or 29 for February, etc.)

Annual Update of Projection Date and Brands

As part of annual processes, the available dates for projection data as well as available brands to query from has been updated. Compass Prescriber and National maintain three full years of projection data, 2021 projection data is retired from the Compass Explorer and projections and customers can pull projections starting from January 2022. In addition, 109 brands have been removed due to low volume, and no longer have projections available.
